How to contribute a route
Thanks for taking to time to investigate sharing your routes with us. Before we begin we just need to run through the process.
1. Before you begin
Firstly we can't publish any illegal routes, all routes MUST use public rights of way (including public roads). For walkers this means footpaths, bridleways, byways and RUPP's are all legal.
Mountain bikers cannot use footpaths but can use bridleways, byways, byways and RUPP's. Obviously everyone can use public roads - if you're not 100% certain submit the route anyway and we'll take a look at it.
2. What we need from you
If you're sure that your route is legal then you can move on to the next section. We've got a tracking system in place that lets you submit a very brief description of your route together with it's location and difficulty.
We'll check the route to make sure that no other contributor is working on a similar route. If your route is unique, and it meets our needs, we'll get back to you with a request for more information about your route.
If you're a user of one of the many digital mapping products such as Tracklogs, Anquet Maps, Fugawi or Memory Map Navigator, then we can accept the route in any of those formats. If you're not, don't worry because we can also accept a photocopy of the relevant section of the Landranger map.
You can use our on-line tracker to submit a written description of the route as well as details of how to get from one waypoint to the next. |
3. Over to us
Having received your route either electronically or on paper, and the route directions we'll review them again for inconsistencies and errors.
Once we're sure that the route directions are easy to follow and are unambiguous we'll start the work of converting your route to the various formats that we support.
We'll always convert routes into the Tracklogs Digital Maps and Anquet Maps formats. We'll usually also convert the route (unless very short) into an Adobe Acrobat downloadable route map too. We are also planning (after the site launch) to convert some routes into the Memory Map and Fugawi formats too.
The checking and conversion process takes around five days. As we progress you'll get regular emails from our tracking system so that you can see how we're doing with your route.
Once the route is completed we'll upload it to the on-line shop ready for sale.
4. How do we pay you ?
Everytime someone buys one of your routes we'll pay you 20 pence. However, rather than make hundreds of tiny payments into your account we'll hold your commission until the amount that we owe you exceeds £10. As soon as it does we'll pay you via Paypal or Nochex.
5. Ready to share a route ?
If you're ready then your next step is to register with in our Contributor area. |
